Banking exams fill clerk and officer posts in public sector banks and regional rural banks. IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection) runs common recruitment for most public sector banks — Clerk, PO (Probationary Officer) and SO (Specialist Officer) — and for Regional Rural Banks: Office Assistant and Officer Scale I, II and III. SBI and RBI recruit on their own.

Most banking posts need a graduate degree in any discipline. For clerk and office assistant posts you apply for one state’s vacancies, and you are usually expected to know that state’s official language.
